About the June Days and After
It is a superiority to apply such a harsh state terror against a people’s movement consisting of millions. This shows that, in the first place, there are millions loyal to AKP as well countering the millions on streets. A government which lacks a strong social grassroot would not act so confidently. Apart from this, there is an unproportional superiority of media in the hands of AKP. When compared, Chavez were also experiencing the mass demonstrations of the rightist opposition. Chavez too had also a strong grassroot, and because of this he maintained his place; but the majority of the private TV channels were in the hands of the extreme enemies of Chavez. On the contrary, in Turkey, there is a strong flattery of AKP by the media. Due to the reason that AKP is a fierce enemy of labour and a sharp neo-liberal government, the capitalist classes are propping AKP as one bloc. Moreover, the bureaucracy and the military is under her control. All aside, the most vital thing is the social support to AKP. Another factor to complicate the scene for AKP is the oncoming economical crisis. Although there is an approaching international climate to make pressure on AKP, the train definitely is not yet off the rail.
The Storm of June could not bring a destruction for AKP, though it has caused an erosion of potential voters. The most important cause in this is, there was no alternative risen to breach the current bourgeois political party ground -even not in a superficial, or in a degree of demagogue fashion- overcoming the alternatives of Republican People’s Party (CHP) and rightist Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) for the ordinary citizens. While the great people’s movement damaging the AKP government, no different political alternative was put forward for whole Turkey. For example, the Angries (Indignati) movement in Italy introduced Grillo to politics, and the movement in Greece created SYRIZA. The ground of two-party opposition by nationalists and republicans (CHP-MHP) have always been in the bag for AKP government. The height of the socialist left was too short to make a considerable opposition. The Anti-capitalist Movement attracted the attention of all and shined their star for the future, but they are not in a situation to be significant enough for today. By the transfer of its president, Numan Kurtulmuş, Has Party has been pushed out the scene, and it turned out that it was a very critical action for the sake of AKP.
Well, if this easing up will go to a period of stagnation, how long can it last? Will the energy of such a mass movement entirely evaporate? Let us answer the second question first. This great energy, of course, shall not evaporate. The masses has written the history of Turkey by their hands, overcoming the barriers of fear. This is a turning point in terms of social consciousness. We can confidently say that nothing will be same after the June Days. It has been clear as daylight that when the community stood up, AKP became almost torn apart. She did not collapse, but trembled so much that the masses will never give up chapulling seing this. This oncoming “period of rest” will end this or that way. Possible cheatings during the election process will be enough to be reason for social explosions.
With the effect of radicalisation, thousands of young people among millions will want to be more organised, and to act organised. Here the only is nothing but socialists. There are no alternatives except socialists to meet the need of organisation for masses. In the mean time, the socialists have good attributions to the movement and now significantly attracted the attention of the youth movement. The socialist left should make good use of this movement, raise well-informed members; and taking lessons from the mistakes of the past, should become more equipped. By this way, our height will not remain too short next time.
